The King and I by Doha Players

One of the things that both me and my husband do enjoy is watching a play or musical. Whenever there's a performance here in Qatar, we make sure not to miss it. I really felt bad we were not able to watch The Little Mermaid staged by our very own Trumpets Company during the 7th Doha Cultural Festival; but we're glad we had the chance to watch The King and I.

The King and I

1. Princess Laiwan with other Royal children, 2. The King and Ana, 3. Kralahome, 4. Tuptim and Lun Tha escapes, 5. Ballet - Small House of Uncle Thomas, 6. The End - Presentation of cast

Created with fd's Flickr Toys.

The King and I [Synopsis is here] is another successful production of Doha Players - the only "English" theater group in the country. Doha Players are composed mostly of westerners that is why we were thrilled when we found out that three Filipinos are part of the major cast. The three Filipinos played the roles of Princess Laiwan (the lady in front, photo #1), Kralahome (photo #3) and Lun Tha (the male in photo #4).

The play was fantastic! The actors did well - great performance I must say. The Pinoy performers of course are very good! Hoping to watch more Pinoy in future Doha Players productions. Do you also like play and musical?

I have video clips but the file is too large - can't upload them to you tube and jumpcut. Any suggestion for free video editing software?

Pinoy Definitely Rocks

Pinoy definitely rocks! The Pinoy Rock concert held at Aladdin Kigdom on 29th of February 2008 was a huge success!!! The main performance started with Gloc 9 followed by Pupil (Ely Buendia's new band), Francis M, Kamikazee and finally, Parokya ni Edgar. Except for Parokya, it's my first time to watch these Pinoy performers in a concert.

Gloc 9 and Francis M are solo performers so they didn't have a live accompaniment. Ely Buendia rendered many of Eraserhead's old hits such as Pare ko, Ang Hulling El Bimbo, Alapaap, etc. Francis M performed his timeless hits such as Ito ang Gusto ko and Mga Kababayan ko. Kamikazee draw the crowd's attention with Jay's humor and the band's spectacular performance. Kamikazee was the ultimate performer of the night! After Kamikazee, it was Parokya ni Edgar's turn to render old and new hits. Towards the end of their performance, Francis M, Gloc 9 and Jay of Kamikazee joined Parokya ni Edgar for the grand finale. The concert was very successfuland we really had a blast despite standing in the Aladdin g rounds for hours. Pinoy defnitely rocks!

The Fickle Minded Turns 1

Today, this blog turns 1. I made my very first post in this blog on March 20, 2007. In a year, I made 127 posts - not bad considering that I'm so busy with my work.

Through blogging, I'm glad to meet some online friends. It's also nice when strangers visit, read my entries and leave comments - even if my blogs are just a diary of my day to day life in Doha, Qatar.

I hope that with my crazy schedule, I will still be able to update this blog from time to time and you will continue to visit and read my lousy writing :)

You can also find solutions to other problems/issues from the help section of MY PHONE website. Their website also have the softwares (USB and phone suite) and the list of Nationwide Service Centers. Try to call their support hotline for assistance if the solutions above did not address the problem of your MY PHONE.

A Sad News

I normally don't receive a phone call from the Office or from a colleague during weekends so I was suprised when my colleague's name, who happens to be my immediate superior, registered in my mobile phone. I took the call with a happy voice as always. After the usual greetings, my colleague said "there's a problem." I'm not sure if I heard it right but I quickly thought of what could have gone wrong with my projects. As my colleague continued, I realized the "problem" was worse than I thought. I really wasn't prepared to hear a very sad news. Our new colleague, who just arrived about three weeks ago had a heart attack and passed away. He is only about 50 years old.

I'm still shocked as I write this. A few hours before his passing, we were in our usual company get together. We went to a nearby public beach and had some barbeques. In fact, he had a healthy meal before leaving the group - green salad and grilled chicken breast although I saw him with a can of beer earlier.

I felt sad. I was looking forward to work with him in our future projects because I know I can learn many things from him. But in just a snap, we lost him - his family, relatives and friends lost him :( I just hope that he is in peace now.

Once again, I was reminded that life is short and we must live each day as if it's our last!

Things that makes me SMILE :)

One of the questions asked in the Bb. Pilipinas pangeant is "five things that can you smile!" Pondering on question, I asked myself - what makes me SMILE?...and I came up with this list...

  • Love and support of my family.
  • Musings of my niece, Chelsie.
  • A surprise gift from my husband.
  • Childhood and other good memories.
  • When I am able to extend a helping hand.
  • A gorgeous sunset.
  • Thoughtful gesture especially if unexpected.
  • Receiving a sincere compliment.
  • Reconnecting with people whom I lost touch with.
  • Accomplishing my goals.
  • Shopping.
  • Everytime I travel in another country.
  • Everytime I am able to curb my spendings.

I can go on and on and on but I think I won't be able to finish and publish this now :)

How about you? What makes you smile? Is there something that made you smile today?
