Today is not my day...

Today is not a very good day...

Missed Appointment
I was so upset I missed an appointment this morning. I was supposed to attend a safety training at 8 AM at client's plant located 80 kilometers from Doha. At normal speed, it's about one hour travel from our office and additional 15 to 20 minutes for validating the gate pass at the main security office and securing visitors pass at the plant site. Unfortunately, I was caught in a very heavy traffic on my way to our office - almost not moving at all. It was terrible...horrible... Inside my car, I was so frustrated/upset/annoyed/irritated/helpless. It didn't help that my fuel indicator is already lighted. I can't believe it took me an hour to reach our office to pick-up my colleagues - a travel that usually takes less than 30 minutes or about 15 minutes during not so busy days.

The heavy traffic I experienced is unusual but when I talk to my colleagues they told me that the traffic situation had really gone worse after Ramadan. Apparently, if I have an 8 AM appointment at a client site, I have to get out of Doha before 6:30 AM, otherwise I won't make it on time. I wasn't aware of that because I usually leave home at 8 AM during regular work day and a few months ago, the traffic situation is not as bad. I wonder how much worse it's going to be in the coming months. I hope the government will do something about it!

So what do you do when stuck in a heavy traffic?

Exchage Rate
I passby the money exchange before heading home. Now, it's only QR 4.58 Riyal to Euro compared to QR 5.60 Riyal to Euro when I went to Europe during the Eid. That means, I lost about 20 Euros for every 100 Euros I exchanged last September. I could have bought a lot of souvenirs with that money. Sayang naman diba? Hmpt!

Scary

Korek, mamu! Wala naman tayong magagawa sa exchange rate coz the whole world is in a financial crisis. That's why I always use BPI in the UK. Higher exchange rate lagi.

Nina - if you are worried about your job situation, perhaps it may help to have options? But don't stress too much about it.

@kengkay,

@ doc joy,
Here, at the remittance centers, we get the actual exchange rate in the Phils (BDO or BPI)on the day we send the money.

About my job , since my company is multi-national, we can transfer to another location if there is a position available :) But then, since I am the "wife," I have to move where my husband is :) Thanks for the concern.
